Meaco Cirro+ 16000 BTU Review

The biggest Cirro is rated for 35-40m² and draws the most power in the range. When that much capacity makes sense, and when the 14000 does the job for £30 less.

From £629.99

Currently showing as sold out

  • + The biggest in the range: rated for 35-40m², with 16000 BTU of cooling (13000 BTU of heating on the heater version)
  • + Inverter model, and at 25kg lighter than the non-inverter 12000 despite the extra capacity
  • + Same two window kits, R290 refrigerant and a 2-year warranty as the smaller models
  • − The highest running draw in the range at 1750W — Meaco quotes about 46p an hour at 26.32p/kWh
  • − Cooling-only version sold out at Meaco direct with a stated return date of April 2027 (checked 2026-10-14)
  • − Only £30 more than the 14000 cooling-only — worth checking your room genuinely needs the 35-40m² rating before paying for the extra capacity
  • − Quoted 42-51dB with no stated test method, and we found no independent noise measurement for this size

Our verdict

Worth considering only if your room genuinely needs 35-40m² of cover, such as an open-plan living space or a conservatory-style room. For anything smaller the 14000 costs £30 less and uses less power. Like the others it is sold out, and we found no independent test of this size.

The Cirro+ 16000 is the largest of Meaco’s six new Cirro models, and the one most likely to be bought on the assumption that bigger is safer. We haven’t tested it and found no independent test of this size, so this review is built from Meaco’s specifications and live pricing and stock. The only independent test of the range, from Ideal Home, covers the 12000.

Who it’s actually good for

A room of roughly 35-40m²: an open-plan kitchen-diner, a large living room, or a room with a lot of glass facing the sun, where a smaller unit would struggle. It is an inverter model like the 14000 and, at 25kg, lighter than the non-inverter 12000 despite having more cooling capacity.

Who should look elsewhere

Most people. A 16000 BTU unit in a small or medium room is more machine than the job needs. Being an inverter it can ease off once the room is cool, so it isn’t as wasteful as an oversized non-inverter would be, but it still costs £30 more than the 14000 cooling-only, draws the most power in the range (1750W at full output) and takes up the same floor space. If your room is under about 35m², our size comparison will probably point you to a smaller model. And if you are cooling a whole floor rather than one room, no portable unit will do that well; our portable vs split-system comparison explains why.

What we couldn’t verify

The noise range (42-51dB), the energy saving Meaco attributes to the inverter, and the 35-40m² rating all come from Meaco, with no stated test method. We couldn’t find an independent measurement for this model. One further oddity: Meaco’s own product page for the cooling-only 16000 gives a moisture-removal figure of 0.8 litres an hour, while the heating version lists 1.9. That looks like a typo on one of the pages, so we haven’t quoted either.

The real numbers

  • Cooling: 16000 BTU for 35-40m². Meaco doesn’t say whether the BTU figure is an ASHRAE or SACC rating.
  • Power: 1750W in cooling mode, about 46p an hour on Meaco’s figures (26.32p/kWh).
  • Inverter: yes.
  • Noise: 42-51dB according to Meaco.
  • Heating version: 13000 BTU of heating at 1400W.
  • Weight and size: 25kg cooling-only, 25.6kg with heating; 722 × 430 × 358mm, on castors. Maximum airflow 460m³/hour.
  • Refrigerant: R290, 230g. Energy rating A.
  • Warranty: 2 years, which Meaco says can be extended to 5.
  • Price and stock: £629.99 cooling-only, £659.99 with heating. Unavailable at Meaco direct, Air Con Centre and Meaco Dehumidifiers UK on 14 October 2026; Meaco lists the cooling-only version as back in April 2027.

To check whether you really need this much capacity, run your room through the room-size calculator, which accounts for ceiling height, sun exposure and insulation.

  • + Inverter model — Meaco says it adjusts its output to hold your chosen temperature rather than cycling fully on and off
  • + Rated for 25-35m² and, at 24.9kg for the cooling-only version, lighter than the non-inverter 12000
  • + Meaco quotes 1550W and about 41p an hour to run at 26.32p/kWh
  • + Same two window kits as the rest of the range, R290 refrigerant and a 2-year warranty
  • − Cooling-only version sold out at Meaco direct with a stated return date of April 2027, and John Lewis lists the heater version as no longer available online (checked 2026-10-14)

Frequently asked questions

Is the Cirro+ 16000 too big for a bedroom?
Usually, yes. Meaco rates it for 35-40m², which is a large open-plan room or a big living space. In a typical 12-20m² bedroom it would hit the target temperature quickly. Because it is an inverter it can then slow down rather than switching off and on, so oversizing is less wasteful than with a non-inverter, but you would still be paying more for capacity you don't use and giving up floor space to a large machine. For a bedroom, start with the 12000 or the 14000.
How much does the Cirro+ 16000 cost to run?
On Meaco's figures it draws 1750W in cooling mode, about 46p an hour at 26.32p/kWh, against about 41p for the 14000 and 36p for the 12000. Your own cost depends on your tariff and how often the compressor is actually working, so use the electricity rate you pay rather than Meaco's. Our room-size calculator lets you enter your own rate and hours of use.
Can the Cirro+ 16000 heat as well as cool?
The version with heating can. Meaco rates it at 13000 BTU of heating and 1400W, and sells it for £659.99 against £629.99 for the cooling-only model. Meaco describes the heating as reverse heat pump technology. Check the heating output against your room's size, since it is lower than the cooling output.
