Room-Size Cooling Calculator

Work out how much cooling power your room needs and which type of cooling suits your constraints — a BTU range and a recommendation, not a false-precision number.

How this estimate works

We start from your room's floor area and ceiling height, then adjust for insulation quality, window size and orientation, how many people usually use the room, and any heat-generating equipment you've told us about. The result is deliberately shown as a range rather than a single number — real-world cooling needs depend on factors a form can't fully capture, like exactly how exposed your walls are or how the room is used day to day.

The recommended cooling type also factors in whether you have outdoor unit access, since that constraint often matters more than raw BTU: a smaller split system will usually outperform a larger portable unit, but only if installation is actually possible for you.
